Physical & Occupational Therapy Services
Physical Therapy

Sports Therapy
This program’s foundation rests on the
analysis of the athlete’s movement patterns, with needed corrections
accomplished through functional, sports-specific training and exercise. Much
emphasis is placed on the prevention of injury to the at-risk female sports
participant.
Back Pain Treatment
Even after extensive work-up, only 15% of patients with LBP can be given a
definitive diagnosis. Never the less, studies show that programs which
incorporate correction of Sacroiliac dysfunction and core
strengthening/stabilization exercise have a high rate of success, even with
chronic patients. We have been using such an approach since late 2008 with
strong outcomes.
Falls Prevention
This program’s focus is on balance and gait assessment with the development of
corrective exercises that the patient should continue with at home. We
encourage family and/or caregiver participation. PT evaluation is recommended
for all elderly patients who have fallen twice in the last 6 months without a
clear explanation such as medication intolerance or slips on ice.
Vestibular Rehabilitation
Treatment of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)
usually relieves symptoms in 1-2 visits. Therapy for unilateral vestibular
hypofunction (from inner ear infection, labyrinth artery ischemia, etc.)
typically responds well to habituation exercise in 3-6 weeks. Exercises for
bilateral vestibular disorders (from auto-immune disease, aminoglycoside
toxicity, etc.) generally results in significant, but incomplete,
improvement.
Lymphedema Management
Our program employs a systematic, research-based approach utilizing four
elements: manual massage/drainage, bandaging, exercise, and skin care.
Consistent and lasting edema control follows 4-6 weeks of treatment. Daily
patient self-bandaging is required during therapy; a pressure garment at
discharge maintains gains.
Occupational Therapy
Functional Capacity Evaluation
FCEs are a comprehensive (typically 3 hour) examination that identifies an
individual’s capabilities relative to their job requirements. The data
generated is used to establish safe parameters for return to work. A physician,
workers compensation companies, and DSS can request FCEs. FCEs invariably
require 3rd party pre-authorizations.
Craniosacral and Somatic Therapy
These techniques enhance healing in the nervous system and body. They tend to
be particularly appropriate for patients with TMJ, fibromyalgia, migraines,
Bell’s palsy, neck/back pain, and many other chronic conditions..
Hand Therapy
This program offers activities and exercises to improve/restore fine motor
function in the wrists and hands following onset of injury, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, stroke and TBI.
Vision Therapy
This program offers the evaluation and treatment of deficits in eye teaming,
visual pursuits, visual field, and motor occulo coordination. Brain injuries
and chronic conditions such as diabetes, macular degeneration, and cataracts
can be the source of these deficits
Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic Therapy takes advantage of the
properties of water such as buoyancy, resistance, and hydrostatic pressure, to
promote overall fitness and rehabilitation to those who are unable to tolerate
traditional land-based therapy programs.
Aquatic Therapy complements these traditional therapy programs and often can improve patient’s mobility, range of motion, and strength at a much faster rate, therefore, maximizing function. The water provides a unique environment for individuals suffering from chronic pain, muscle spasms, decreased range of motion, and limited weight bearing. Licensed Physical and Occupational Therapists develop a customized treatment plan specific for each individual’s needs. A physician referral is required.
