Household Sharps Program
Needles, Syringes and Lancets (Sharps) used by individuals at home for self delivery of injectable medications may be dropped off at the hospital for disposal. They are to be placed, at a minimum, in a container that is rigid, puncture resistant, shatterproof, leak proof, and secured with a screw top (an old detergent bottle is ideal). The bottle is to be labeled “Biohazard-Sharps” with a black marker. Containers that are judged to not provide protection against needle stick injuries cannot be considered as adequate for the purposes of this program. Personnel at collection sites will not accept them.
