Breastfeeding Basics

A two-hour, educational, class session about the natural process of breastfeeding facilitated by a certified lactation consultant. Learn more about the process and the mental, emotional and physical benefits of breastfeeding to baby and mother.  Develop confidence in your ability and your baby’s ability to breastfeed. 

Topics of discussion include:

  • Choosing and preparing to breastfeed
  • Anatomy and physiology of breastfeeding
  • Milk composition
  • Changes in your breasts
  • What breastfeeding will be like
  • Correct positioning
  • Eating for two – what can I eat
  • Do I need to pump breast milk
  • Benefits for your baby and you
  • Baby’s growth and development
  • Especially for fathers
  • That first feeding after birth
  • Managing problems
  • The working mother
  • Storage of pumped breast milk
  • Weaning
