American Heart Association Basic Life Saving CPR

The AHA Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support course provides people working in health care or related fields with the knowledge and skills regarding the role of the healthcare provider and the community in the total emergency cardiac care system.  Class is set up with instruction, video, skills practice, skills testing, written exam.  A two-year course completion card is presented to successful participants at the end of class.


Education and Training Provided:

  • Adult and pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Foreign body airway obstruction
  • Two Rescuer CPR
  • Use of barrier devices
  • Use of an AED (automated external defibrillator)
  • Anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory system
  • Risk factors for heart disease and stroke
  • Prudent and healthy lifestyle choices for heart health as it applies to risk reduction
  • Signs and Symptoms for cardiac emergencies and stroke
  • Actions for survival required of both the victim and the healthcare provider to lesson chance of  disability and prevent sudden death
  • Knowledge of safety factors in training and actual rescue
  • Understanding of the ethical and legal considerations in CPR

Class Time Requirements:  One day, 4 to 6 hours
